Dit krachtige telezoomobjectief in de L-serie combineert een licht gewicht en compactheid met een f/4 maximum diafragma. Het ingebouwde scherpstelsysteem en het ringtype USM maken een snelle en stille autofocus mogelijk. Tevens kan probleemloos een circulair polarisatiefilter worden bevestigd en gebruikt, omdat het voorste lenselement niet roteert tijdens het scherpstellen.
