De Pentax SMC DA 55mm f/1.4 SDM AL IF biedt de gebruiker verschillende handige functies. Zo bevat de lens super-low-dispersion optische elementen en originele Pentax coatings. De Pentax SMC DA 55mm biedt scherpe, hoog-contrast foto's zelfs aan de randen. De lens is uitgerust met water- en stofbestendige afdichting voor een betrouwbare werking in ongunstige omstandigheden. Door de coatings van Pentax, de plaatsing van de elementen en het gebruik van de juiste materialen worden flares en ghosting verschijnselen sterk terug gedrongen. De Aero Bright coating wordt gebruikt voor een maximale licht transmissie.
