Hoewel de totale afmetingen zijn beperkt tot het absolute minimum, zit de nieuwe SP AF70-200mm F/2.8 Di LD (IF) MACRO zoomlens vol met met functies waarmee stress-vrije fotografie mogelijk word gemaakt: een veelzijdig MFA (minimum instel afstand) van slechts 0,95 m over het hele zoombereik, een uitstekende maximale vergroting van 1:3.1 op f = 200mm en een sublieme ingebouwde focus (IF). Deze lens heeft een groot bereik van 70-200mm bij gebruik van een full-size sensor SLR en van 109-310mm* bij een APS-C formaat sensor SLR.
(*) De verhouding die Tamron gebruikt voor de conversie van de full-size naar APS-C brandpuntafstand is 1.55X
Door de interne autofocus is de lens ook geschikt voor de Nikon D40, D40x en D60.
