Een objectief met een brandpuntsafstand tussen de 50mm en de 200mm is perfect voor het maken van portretten, omdat er dan bijna geen vertekening optreedt. Hoe groter de brandpuntsafstand, hoe verder weg u van het model zult moeten staan voor de perfecte compositie. Als u tussendoor graag aanwijzingen geeft of wilt praten met het model, is het handiger om te kiezen voor een objectief waarbij u niet al te ver weg hoeft te staan van de geportretteerde.
